A quiet Cambridge block turned into a crime scene early Saturday when a person was found dead near the intersection of Broadway and Norfolk Street. Emergency crews raced to the area, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and police say a homicide investigation is now underway.
A few minutes before 5:30 a.m. Saturday, Cambridge Emergency Communications received a report of a person lying on the ground near Broadway and Norfolk. Paramedics arrived and declared the individual deceased, noting an apparent gunshot wound, according to a statement from the Cambridge Police Department.
Investigation and law enforcement response
Cambridge police say detectives from the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, along with Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the DA’s office, are assisting with the investigation, as reported by NBC Boston. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity, and there was no immediate word on any arrests or suspects.
Local context
This latest fatal shooting comes on the heels of a high-profile incident on May 11 on Memorial Drive that left two people wounded and triggered a large law-enforcement response. That earlier case fueled renewed calls for tighter gun controls, according to WBUR, and it remains a fresh concern for many Cambridge residents and city leaders.

Police are asking anyone with information about the weekend shooting to contact the Cambridge Police Department at (617) 349-3300. Anonymous tips can be submitted through the city’s online tip portal, the department said. Officials added that more details will be released as investigators develop new information.
