An early-morning shooting at a mobile home park near Apache Boulevard and McClintock Drive in Tempe left one man wounded and had the neighborhood swarming with police before sunrise Wednesday.
Officers were called out around 3:30 a.m., and patrol vehicles quickly moved in, blocking off parts of the area as investigators tried to sort out what happened. The injured man was rushed to a hospital and is expected to survive. A woman who was with him at the time was not hit.
How Investigators Say The Shooting Unfolded
According to Arizona's Family, Tempe police say a man and a woman showed up at a home inside the mobile home park and got into an argument with another man. During that dispute, a second man came out of the residence and opened fire.
The male victim was hit and taken to a hospital, where he is expected to recover, Arizona's Family reports. The woman who arrived with him was not injured. Police detained two people who had been inside the home for questioning as detectives processed the scene.
The Intersection's Recent History
The stretch around Apache and McClintock has already seen its share of trouble this year. Earlier in the year, a separate shooting near the same intersection left a man hospitalized, according to ABC15.
That cluster of incidents has kept the corridor, which includes light-rail platforms and several travel-trailer and mobile-home parks, on Tempe officers' regular radar. Neighbors have voiced growing worries about safety along the busy route after multiple high-profile responses from police.
As of early Wednesday, Tempe police had not announced any charges. Investigators asked anyone who might have information or video from the area to contact the department, Arizona's Family reports. Officers stayed on scene into the morning, collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.
