Shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday, a purple Tesla tore through a Buckhead residential block, slamming into parked cars, trees, brick pillars and a power pole before finally ending up in a ditch beside a house. Neighbors described a mangled car with its roof caved in as the driver crawled out and took off running. One other driver hit during the chaos was taken to a hospital, while the people inside the home the Tesla clipped were not injured.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, officers at the scene said the Tesla hit multiple cars, statues and a gas meter before coming to a stop in the yard. The outlet reports the driver escaped the wreck on foot and has not been publicly identified, and police have also not released the identity or condition of the person taken to the hospital. FOX 5 Atlanta adds that utility crews spent the morning trimming trees and digging new holes so they could replace the destroyed pole and restore power to the block.
Utility Response and Safety
Utility crews moved in to swap out the destroyed power pole, restore service to affected customers and clear the crash debris scattered along the street. Officials are reminding residents that downed or low-hanging lines can be deadly and that people should steer clear of any damaged wires and let trained crews handle the cleanup. Georgia Power urges anyone who spots a downed line to call 911 and the utility hotline instead of touching the wire or trying to move branches, vehicles or other debris.
Legal Consequences for Fleeing
Leaving the scene of a crash that causes injury or property damage can bring serious criminal charges under Georgia law. As outlined by Justia, O.C.G.A. § 40-6-270 requires drivers involved in collisions that cause injury or damage to stop, provide aid when needed and exchange information. Failing to do so can be prosecuted as a misdemeanor or, in more serious cases involving significant injury, as a felony.

Residents with dash-cam or doorbell footage from around the time of the crash are being urged to share it to help detectives piece together what happened. Authorities say the investigation remains active and the driver who ran from the scene has not yet been located.
