A normally quiet block in Ramona was the scene of a double killing last night, leaving two people dead inside a home and an Escondido man behind bars, authorities said.
Deputies with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department were called around 8:44 PM to a report of an assault with a firearm in the 600 block of 11th Street, where they found a man and a woman suffering from traumatic injuries. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, and officials are holding back their names until they can confirm identities and notify next of kin, according to the Times of San Diego.
Deputies also encountered a man waiting on the front steps of the residence. The Times of San Diego reported that Escondido resident Ryan Proffitt, 33, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of murder.
The San Diego County Sheriff's Office told reporters the killings appear to be an isolated incident and said the motive and circumstances remain under active investigation. Detectives have not disclosed how the parties may have known each other or what led up to the violence.

Proffitt remains in custody on two counts of murder while homicide detectives continue to process the home and interview witnesses. The San Diego County Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit is leading the investigation and is asking anyone with information to call (858) 285-6330.
