
A late-night shooting in Memphis' Rangeline area left one man dead and a 17-year-old behind bars, pulling fresh tragedy into a stretch of Overton Crossing that has been trying to stage a comeback.
Police response and charges
According to Action News 5, officers with the Memphis Police Department were called out around 9:40 p.m. on July 2 to reports of a shooting near Overton Crossing. When they arrived, they found a man who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Through the night, homicide investigators worked the case and developed a suspect. A little after 2 a.m., officers located and detained a 17-year-old, who has since been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the killing, Action News 5 reports.

What happens next
MPD's homicide unit is continuing to investigate while the charged juvenile moves through the local court system. The victim's identity has not yet been released, according to Action News 5.
