Humble Pie has rolled into Richmond Heights with a clear game plan: thin-crusted tavern pies up front, sugar rush in the back. The neighborhood pizza project from St. Louis chef Mark Lucas is now open on South Big Bend, pairing Chicago-style tavern pizza with small plates, sandwiches and a full-blown soda-fountain counter. Dole Whip, stacked milkshakes and “dirty” sodas line the front counter next to the pizza line, and the spot at 1059 S. Big Bend is pitched as a family-friendly option for dine-in, takeout and delivery.
Where and When to Go
The Richmond Heights outpost quietly switched on the ovens in December 2025. St. Louis Magazine reported that the new version seats about 60 guests and took over the former Del Pietro’s/Riverbend/Harvest space. According to that coverage, the dining room was reworked to add a walk-up counter devoted to frozen treats and floats. The relaunch follows an earlier Humble Pie in Ladue that opened in 2017 and closed after a short run.
What to Order
The menu keeps things tight and familiar. Thin Chicago-tavern pizzas are the backbone, offered as 9- and 12-inch pies, alongside burgers, sandwiches, salads and a few small plates. Humble Pie highlights the Toasted Ravioli Pizza as a house specialty and lists shareables like Mexican street corn dip and sambal coconut-glazed chicken skewers. There is also a build-your-own float section, so you can mix and match sodas with soft serve or Italian ice as aggressively as your sweet tooth allows.
Soda-Fountain and Sweets
The front counter has been refitted as an old-school ice cream and soda bar, stocked with Dole Whip-style soft serve, Italian ice and a lineup of flavored “dirty” sodas that local coverage has called out as a signature twist. Sauce Magazine noted the nostalgic drinks-and-desserts setup as a simple way to broaden the restaurant’s appeal beyond pizza. The idea is that you can grab a quick pie, then pivot straight into milkshakes and floats, which makes the place an easy hang for families and casual groups.
Who’s Behind It
Chef-owner Mark Lucas, the longtime operator of Fozzie’s Sandwich Emporium and a partner in other local projects, is the force behind Humble Pie. He first launched the concept in Ladue in 2017 before shuttering that location. Local reporting says the Richmond Heights buildout is a more streamlined version designed to be sustainable over the long haul, with those details and a fuller menu snapshot laid out by Ladue News.
