A quiet Round Lake Beach cul-de-sac turned into a crime scene Sunday night when officers found a man lying in the roadway with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later died, and police say a suspect is already in custody as detectives work to piece together what happened.
Police response and arrest
Officers were called around 9:30 p.m. for reports of gunfire in the 1200 block of Sunnyside Court, where they discovered the victim in the street suffering from a gunshot wound, according to FOX 32 Chicago. Crews from the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District transported the man to a nearby hospital, but he did not survive.
Detectives quickly identified a suspect believed to be responsible and, with help from the Illinois State Police, located that person and took them into custody, FOX 32 Chicago reported. Police have not released additional details about the arrest as the investigation continues.
Investigation update
Early findings suggest the victim and the suspect knew each other, and investigators currently believe the shooting was an isolated incident. "They do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community," police said, according to FOX 32 Chicago. More information is expected to be made public as detectives develop the case.
Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the Round Lake Beach Police Department’s nonemergency line at 847-546-2127, which the department listed as its nonemergency contact in April, according to the Daily Herald. Authorities have not yet released the names of the victim or the suspect, and no criminal charges have been announced publicly.
