Today morning's trip to the bus stop in Over-the-Rhine turned into a crime scene when one person was shot during the commute, leaving the neighborhood on edge. The shooting happened around 8:30 a.m. at the corner of Liberty and Linn streets, where officers quickly taped off the intersection and started their investigation. Police did not immediately release the victim's condition.
According to WKRC, a Metro bus remained inside the cordoned-off area as officers focused on evidence that included a backpack and a single shoe left at the stop. Police told the station that a search for a suspect was underway but did not provide a description, leaving the public with few details about who might be responsible. First responders and investigators processed the scene while buses and drivers were forced to detour around the closure.
Police Activity At The Stop
The Liberty–Linn corridor has seen its share of recent gun violence, with other shootings sending victims to medical care or nearby fire stations in the same stretch of Over-the-Rhine, as WCPO has reported. Today, officers could be seen canvassing sidewalks, talking with riders and residents, and carefully marking and collecting evidence as morning traffic crawled by.
Transit Safety Concerns
The shooting revived worries for regular bus riders, who have already been on edge after a deadly May incident on a Metro bus in Avondale that led to an indictment, as covered by FOX19. That earlier case underscored how an ordinary ride can turn violent in seconds and how surveillance footage and witness statements can make or break a hunt for a suspect.
The Cincinnati Police Department said the investigation for today's shooting remains active and that detectives are pursuing leads. For the latest details from the scene, see the report from WKRC.
