Temperatures were around 68 degrees at San Diego International Airport early today, and the forecast calls for light west winds with no rain expected. The bigger concern is at the shoreline, where dangerous surf and minor coastal flooding are expected this evening.
High Surf And Coastal Flooding Begin Thursday Evening
A High Surf Advisory runs from 5 PM today through 5 PM Saturday for San Diego County coastal areas, according to the National Weather Service San Diego. Breaking waves of 5 to 8 feet, with sets up to 9 feet, are expected on south- and southwest-facing beaches, while west-facing beaches could see 3- to 6-foot surf.
Evening high tides could also bring minor flooding to low-lying beach parking lots, boardwalks and roads from 5 PM today through early Saturday. Strong rip currents, dangerous swimming and surfing conditions, localized erosion and waves sweeping people from jetties or docks are all possible, so inexperienced swimmers should stay out of the water.
Heat Advisory Covers The Coast Friday Through Sunday
A Heat Advisory begins at 10 AM tomorrow and continues through 8 PM next Sunday for coastal areas of San Diego County. Beaches should remain near the low 80s, but the mesas and higher coastal terrain could reach the mid-80s to around 90, while warm nighttime temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s offer limited relief.
Tomorrow will be mostly sunny with a high near 81, followed by highs around 83 from Saturday through next Monday. Drink plenty of fluids, limit prolonged sun exposure and check on people who may not have reliable air conditioning.
Foggy Mornings, Sunny Afternoons Through Next Week
Patchy fog is expected tomorrow and Saturday nights, with morning fog clearing by late morning on Saturday and next Sunday. After that, afternoons should stay mostly sunny, with highs near 82 to 83 through next Wednesday and overnight lows around 69 to 70.
