San Diego is waking up today to cloudy skies and temperatures near 70 degrees, but the gray start will give way to mostly sunny conditions and a high around 79 this afternoon. Light south winds should stay between 5 and 10 mph, with no rain in the forecast.
Heat Builds Into the Weekend
Temperatures climb to about 80 tomorrow, 82 on Friday, and 84 on Saturday and next Sunday near the coast, according to the National Weather Service San Diego. A Heat Advisory is scheduled for San Diego County coastal areas from 10 AM on Friday through 8 PM next Sunday, with mid-80s to around 90 expected on mesas and higher coastal terrain.
Inland San Diego County will feel a much sharper version of the heat. The lower deserts are forecast to reach roughly 114 to 120 degrees over the weekend, while inland valleys and mountain communities also run well above average.
High Surf And Coastal Flooding Start Wednesday Evening
Beach conditions turn dangerous this evening, when a High Surf Advisory begins at 5 PM and continues through Saturday afternoon. Breaking waves of 5 to 8 feet are expected, with sets up to 9 feet on south- and southwest-facing beaches and 3 to 6 feet on west-facing beaches.
A Coastal Flood Advisory also begins at 5 PM today and runs through early Saturday, bringing a risk of minor flooding around low-lying beach parking lots, boardwalks and roads during evening high tides. Strong rip and longshore currents are expected, and inexperienced swimmers should stay out of the water; beachgoers should never turn their backs on the ocean.
Foggy Mornings, Sunny Afternoons
Patchy fog is expected tomorrow night and again Friday and Saturday mornings before clearing by late morning. The warm spell eases slightly early next week, with highs near 81 next Monday and Tuesday and overnight lows in the upper 60s.
