A 17-year-old boy was killed in South Chicago early Thursday after officers found him outside with multiple gunshot wounds, launching a homicide investigation on the Far South Side.
The boy was found around 1:30 a.m. in the 8300 block of South Oglesby Avenue, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Detectives were investigating the killing, and police reported that no arrests had been made. Authorities had not publicly released the teen’s name or details about what led to the shooting as of Thursday afternoon.
Chicago Homicides Remain Above Last Year’s Pace
The fatal shooting comes as Chicago’s homicide total remains slightly above last year’s historically low pace. Through the end of June, the city had recorded 210 homicides, nearly 6% more than during the same period in 2025, according to WTTW News.
The South Chicago case remained open Thursday, with investigators working to determine who fired the shots and what prompted the killing. No further details were immediately available.
