Sprouts Farmers Market shoppers in San Diego County are about to get a serious coffee upgrade. The grocer is rolling out an expanded partnership with Klatch Coffee this summer, with 11 Klatch cafés set to open inside select Sprouts stores. The first wave is scheduled to debut tomorrow, with a string of grand-opening events to follow.
What’s opening and when
Sprouts says the expansion will bring 11 Klatch in-store cafés to Southern California, including the first Klatch locations in San Diego County. The initial two cafés, inside Sprouts stores in Carlsbad and Laguna Niguel, are slated to open tomorrow. Grand-opening events running July 2–5 will feature giveaways, a gift-card raffle and a Geisha coffee tasting, according to Comunicaffe.
Sprouts says it’s about the in-store experience
“We're continuously listening to our customers and evolving the in-store experience in ways that feel both meaningful and relevant to the communities we serve,” Mandy Rassi, Sprouts’ chief customer officer, told Patch. The idea, Sprouts and Klatch say, is to give shoppers another reason to linger while they run errands and to plug local specialty coffee directly into neighborhood grocery runs.
Klatch’s sourcing and the opening menu
Klatch presents itself as a specialty roaster that follows a direct-trade model and says it buys Cup of Excellence-quality coffees, often scoring 90 points or higher, while paying farmers well above Fair Trade minimums, according to Klatch Coffee. Those award-winning coffees will be front and center at the new Sprouts bars, and a limited-time drink called the Naked Verbena is set to headline the grand-opening menu, according to Comunicaffe.
How this fits Sprouts’ broader plan
Industry coverage has framed the rollout as a multi-phase effort that will bring roughly 20 Klatch cafés to Southern California, with the current phase extending the concept into new counties, including San Diego. The push comes as Sprouts continues its national growth, now operating more than 480 stores in 25 states and employing about 36,000 people, according to company filings and industry reporting. Where San Diegans can find Klatch
Klatch’s “coming soon” page lists several San Diego County and nearby Sprouts locations slated to get in-store cafés, including stores in Bressi Ranch (Carlsbad), Mira Mesa, Clairemont, Genesee/Pacific Ranch, El Cajon, Escondido and Santee, along with additional sites across South Orange and North San Diego County. The company says openings will continue to roll out through the summer, and shoppers are advised to check Sprouts and Klatch channels for store-level dates and hours. Klatch Coffee lists the planned San Diego-area locations.
If you head out between July 2 and 5, expect at least some crowds around the new bars as people line up for freebies and tastings. Klatch and Sprouts say they will post updates on openings and promotions on their websites and social feeds as each location comes online.
