A stolen pickup tied to a string of crimes across metro Atlanta met a very undramatic end on Friday, when it crashed and got stuck on a metal fence post in Fulton County, according to police. Four people were arrested after the botched getaway: officers say the driver tried to run off on foot before being caught, one passenger was subdued with a Taser, and two others were found hiding nearby. Authorities said the takedown capped a coordinated response by a regional enforcement detail.
Fulton County police said officers with the Atlanta Heatwave Joint Detail had been tracking the pickup in connection with incidents in Chamblee, East Point and South Fulton. When they moved in for a felony traffic stop, investigators say the driver threw the truck in reverse and hit a Fulton County patrol vehicle, then tried to speed away. Instead, the pickup became lodged on a metal fence post. Officers at the scene reported recovering a Glock 27, a Glock 19C fitted with machine-gun conversion devices, a Pioneer Arms Hellpup Draco with a 40-round drum magazine, about 7.7 ounces of suspected marijuana and $4,712.75 in cash, according to WSB-TV.
