Portland woke up to clear skies and crisp air on Sunday, July 12, 2026, with morning temperatures in the mid-50s and a bright sun already doing its thing. Inland neighborhoods are on track to warm to about 80°F this afternoon, while the coast hangs back in the cooler 60s. A north-northwest breeze will strengthen as the day goes on, so beach and river plans may feel a bit chillier than the numbers suggest.
According to the National Weather Service in Portland, highs should top out near 80°F today, dip to around 55°F overnight, then climb into the mid- to upper-80s on Monday and the upper-80s to low-90s by Tuesday. Forecasters expect mainly dry weather through midweek, with only a slight chance of light rain Wednesday night. The NWS also notes Small Craft Advisories for parts of the coastal waters from late morning into Monday, with seas building to 6-7 feet this evening.
Afternoon Winds Set To Kick Up
North-northwest winds will ramp up by late morning and hold in the 6-13 mph range across the metro area, with gusts around 20-25 mph in more exposed spots and along the rivers. Boaters and cyclists should plan for choppier, breezier conditions this afternoon and into tonight. Those overnight gusts could make for some brisk walks in hillier neighborhoods.
Smoke Possible Over The Cascades
Forecasters say haze from a wildfire near Wimer may push smoke into the Cascade crest this afternoon and Monday, bringing hazier views at higher elevations. The NWS forecast discussion notes that “smoke aloft is not expected to mix down to the surface” in nearby valleys, though anyone with respiratory sensitivities may want to keep medication handy if they are heading into the mountains. Portland itself is expected to stay mostly clear for most people.
Plan Ahead
It is a solid day for errands and outdoor exercise. Think layers for the cool start and the coast, and water plus shade for those warmer inland afternoons. If temperatures land in the upper 80s or 90s later this week, check local cooling options and heat-safety guidance from the City of Portland. Be sure to keep an eye on updated forecasts and marine advisories before heading out on the water.
We will update this page if advisories or smoke concerns change. For the latest conditions, follow local forecasts and official advisories before locking in your plans.
