Neighbors near Newalla are officially on the clock. The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority has opened a 30-day virtual comment period for the planned interchange where the Toby Keith Expressway will meet Interstate 40 near Newalla. Officials say the feedback will focus on ramp configurations and frontage-road changes as designers finalize plans for the east-west corridor that will eventually link I-44 to the Kickapoo Turnpike. The review runs July 21 through Aug. 21 and is aimed at nearby residents in Oklahoma and Cleveland counties.
In a July news release, the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority said the virtual open house and materials will be posted online starting July 21 and that questions can be directed through ACCESS Oklahoma. According to KFOR, OTA officials framed the outreach as a chance to limit local traffic impacts where the new ramps hit I-40.
What officials are asking
Project staff say the public input will concentrate on detailed design items, things like ramp geometry, turn lanes and frontage-road connections, rather than the overall corridor alignment. The agency notes that because much of the right-of-way was acquired when the Kickapoo Turnpike was built, "design questions are narrower than at newer interchanges," a spokesperson said in the OTA statement.
