Early Friday in Uptown, a quiet stretch of North Winthrop Avenue turned into a crime scene after a 21-year-old man was shot and killed while sitting in his vehicle, according to Chicago police.
Officers said the attack unfolded around 12:24 a.m. on the 5100-block of North Winthrop Avenue, when an unknown male suspect walked up to the parked vehicle and opened fire. The victim was hit in the neck, rushed to Illinois Masonic Hospital, and later pronounced dead. Area Three detectives are handling the case.
As reported by ABC7 Chicago, police said the shooter approached the vehicle and fired, then took off. As of the department's morning update, authorities had not released the victim's name or suggested any possible motive. Detectives were canvassing the area overnight and asking anyone who saw or heard anything to come forward.
