A late-afternoon grass fire on Saturday raced into a truck parts yard in the Vineyard area of Sacramento County, scorching several vehicles and at least four semi-truck trailers. Fire crews knocked down the flames before they could spread to additional equipment, and no injuries were reported. Authorities say the cause remains under investigation.
Metro Fire of Sacramento crews responded at about 2:30 p.m. to reports of a fire on Elder Creek Road west of Excelsior Road and found flames moving through vehicles at the yard. According to CBS Sacramento, additional engine companies were called in to keep the blaze from reaching other parked rigs and trailers.

The Vineyard area sits near open lots and levee corridors where dry summer grasses and gusting winds can push flames quickly across property lines. A fast-moving blaze near SMF recently highlighted how rapidly vegetation fires can grow in the region.
Damage and investigation
Metro Fire reported that four semi-truck trailers and a number of other vehicles were damaged in the blaze, but crews were able to stop the flames before further losses occurred. No injuries were reported and, per CBS Sacramento, investigators are working to determine what ignited the fire.
