Panfila Cantina, the San Antonio taqueria that turned its oversized conchas into a viral sensation, is gearing up to open a second North Side outpost at Park North Shopping Center. Husband-and-wife owners Gabby Hinojosa and Charlie Gonzalez confirmed they are taking over the former Miguelito’s space in Suite 115 at 842 NW Loop 410 and are aiming for a July debut.
Hinojosa shared via social message that the pair launched Panfila in April 2021 at The Shops at Fossil Creek, then branched out into projects including Tutto Pepe Osteria and San Peter Taqueria. Both owners are graduates of the Culinary Institute of America’s New York campus. Gonzalez previously worked at Signia by Hilton La Cantera Resort & Spa’s SweetFire Kitchen, while Hinojosa did stints at Signature and Denmark’s acclaimed Noma. On the menu, Panfila blends Mexican street staples such as flautas ahogadas and al pastor tacos with coastal plates like borrachos de pescado, plus the now-signature oversized concha served with hot chocolate in a barro rojo pitcher, according to CultureMap San Antonio.
Space And Context
The new North Side spot will move into the suite that previously housed Miguelito’s Mexican Cuisine, which was locked out in January amid an alleged unpaid-rent dispute, according to MySA. Park North, listed at 842 Northwest Loop 410 on the shopping-center website, has seen several recent tenant changes as property owners recalibrate leasing plans, and Panfila is the latest name added to that shuffle.
What To Expect
Panfila has built a reputation for inventive, chef-driven takes on Mexican street food that work in tight dining rooms and at to-go counters, a setup the owners say they plan to replicate on the North Side. They are still ironing out buildout details and exact hours and have not announced a firm opening date, though they continue to eye July. Once doors open, fans of the concha-and-hot-chocolate combo will have a new convenient stop, CultureMap San Antonio reports.
