Late Tuesday, Highland Park police told residents on the 300-block of Walker Avenue to shelter in place while officers investigated a reported shooting, according to city officials. Neighbors described a heavy law enforcement presence as officers searched the block and emergency crews responded.

The city asked people to stay away from the area and to call 911 with any concerns, as reported by ABC7 Chicago. Police said dogs and drones were assisting in the search and that an injured person was being taken to a local hospital.
"Residents should not open doors or windows to unexpected visitors," the city said, warning neighbors to avoid the 300-block of Walker Avenue while officers worked, per ABC7 Chicago.

Authorities said they were looking for two people who were seen speaking with the victim and urged anyone with information to call 911. Highland Park remains sensitive after the July 4, 2022 parade shooting that killed seven people, and that earlier attack and its aftermath have kept local officials vigilant, as reported by ABC News.
