
A pre-dawn argument on a West Englewood block ended in deadly violence early Sunday, when a 72-year-old man was fatally slashed during a fight with a 38-year-old man, according to police.
Officers were called around 2:48 a.m. to the 6200 block of South Laflin Street, where the confrontation between the two men had turned physical. The older man was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center with a serious neck wound and was later pronounced dead. The 38-year-old suspected attacker was taken into custody, and charges were still pending as of Monday morning.
The timing of the incident and initial account of the clash were first reported by CBS Chicago, citing police. Authorities have not publicly identified either the victim or the suspect while the investigation remains active.
