According to the National Weather Service, Sunday will stay mostly sunny through late morning before a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms develops after noon. The chance of rain is 20%, with west winds around 9 mph, and the advisory covers all five boroughs.
Sunday night turns mostly clear after a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7 p.m., with a low around 76. Monday starts sunny and near 87, but storms become more likely after 5 p.m., with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms and possible rainfall below a quarter-inch. The forecast discussion says some of those storms could be strong to severe late Monday, though exact timing and impacts remain uncertain.
Stay Cool Sunday, Then Watch Monday Evening
Heat illness is the main concern during Sunday’s advisory: use air conditioning or find a cool indoor place, drink water, and check on older adults, neighbors and anyone with health conditions. People without air conditioning can check the city’s cooling-center finder or call 311 for nearby relief. Outdoor workers should take frequent breaks in shade or air conditioning.
Beachgoers should also note a moderate rip-current risk Sunday as southwest winds build waves along the coast. That risk is expected to ease to low Monday, but swimmers should stay near lifeguards and follow posted beach instructions.
Cooler Air Arrives By Friday
Tuesday and Wednesday stay mostly sunny to partly sunny with highs of 85 and 83, though each could bring a stray shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon or evening. Thursday remains warm near 86 with another 40% chance of storms. Then the pattern finally breaks: Friday should be mostly sunny near 82, followed by a cooler Saturday near 81 and overnight lows dipping into the upper 60s.
