The Admiral Block Party, long a single-day summer staple outside the historic Admiral Theatre, is expanding to a two-day format this year, adding an entirely new Friday evening of live acoustic music ahead of Saturday's traditional main-stage lineup.
The event's growth was detailed by West Seattle Blog, which reported the party now spans both Friday, August 21, and Saturday, August 22, and is presented by the Admiral Neighborhood Association. According to the outlet, Friday's portion kicks off with afternoon and evening live music, followed by acoustic sound and DJ sets that evening. Westside Seattle reports that the new Friday preview runs from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. and centers on acoustic sets from Ashton Wecker, Self Doubt, Ben Bruce, Moongirl, and Acoustic Crisis before closing out with a late DJ set.
Saturday keeps the format West Seattle regulars know best, but with a fuller schedule. Per the same Westside Seattle report, the main stage runs continuously from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with 10 live musical performances, opening with the W5 Ukulele Players and closing with an 8 p.m. headline set from Novachrome. Vendor and nonprofit booths open at 10 a.m. that Saturday, the West Seattle Blog notes, giving early arrivals a chance to browse before the music ramps up.

The Seattle Public Library announced in July that the West Seattle Branch, a 116-year-old historic building located on 42nd Ave SW immediately adjacent to the block party site, closed on Sunday for a $5.5 million FEMA-funded electric HVAC upgrade that is expected to keep it shut through early November. The timing means the library's closure begins right as the surrounding blocks fill with festival crowds.
