Charlotte-area barbecue fans have lost another Shane’s Rib Shack, with the Rock Hill restaurant serving its final orders Sunday before shutting down for good. The closure comes just months after the chain’s Steele Creek location also disappeared from the local dining map.
The Rock Hill restaurant had its last day on Sunday, according to Charlotte Observer coverage. Management thanked customers for “every visit, every order, and every bit of support,” but did not publicly explain what led to the closure.
The restaurant was one of only a few Shane’s Rib Shack locations still serving the Charlotte region. Its closing means customers looking for the chain’s pulled pork sandwiches, saucy ribs, smoked chicken and Southern sides will have to look elsewhere.
Rock Hill Closure Follows Steele Creek Shutdown
Shane’s Rib Shack closed its Steele Creek restaurant in February after what management described as “many great years” in business. With the Rock Hill location now gone, the closest option identified for Charlotte-area customers is the chain’s Gastonia restaurant, roughly 30 miles away.
The Gastonia location serves the same fast-casual barbecue lineup, including pulled pork, ribs, chicken, burgers, loaded baked potatoes, fries, salads and sides such as mac and cheese, potato salad and baked beans. The chain’s official location list identifies the Gastonia restaurant as an active North Carolina outpost.
A Smaller Local Footprint For The Georgia-Based Chain
Shane’s Rib Shack is a Georgia-based fast-casual barbecue chain built around quick-service versions of classic Southern meals. The company has not announced a reason for the recent Charlotte-area closures, and CharlotteFive said it requested additional information from the Rock Hill restaurant.
For now, the Rock Hill shutdown marks another familiar restaurant sign coming down in the region, while nearby barbecue shoppers face a longer drive for the chain’s ribs, pulled pork and baked beans.
