An elderly man was pushed to the ground and robbed of his wallet containing approximately $500 in cash near a commercial strip on Lenwood Road in Barstow on Tuesday, according to a Barstow Police Department statement. Two male juveniles, ages 15 and 16, were arrested after officers located them near Highpoint Parkway and recovered the stolen cash and wallet.
Barstow police officers responded to the 2800 block of Lenwood Road after receiving a report that an elderly man had been shoved to the ground and had his wallet taken, as reported by VVNG. Per the police statement relayed by the outlet, the two juveniles took the victim's wallet from his pocket before fleeing the area on foot with roughly $500 in cash inside it.
Officers located and detained both juveniles near Highpoint Parkway without incident, the outlet's report notes. The victim's wallet and cash were recovered and returned to him, and police say they also located and collected surveillance video capturing the incident. The High Desert Juvenile Detention and Assessment Center in Apple Valley is a former facility operated by the San Bernardino County Probation Department; it no longer houses juveniles, who are being sent to the Central Valley Juvenile Detention Center.
