Bed-Stuy Deli Stabbing Leaves Woman, 26, Wounded, Attacker Still at Large

A 26-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times inside a commercial establishment at 894 Myrtle Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant on the evening of August 6, and the attacker remains unidentified three weeks later. Police say the victim got into a verbal dispute with an unidentified individual around 9:13 p.m. inside the store, and the confrontation escalated into a physical altercation before the attacker displayed a sharp object and stabbed her about the body.

According to NYPD Crime Stoppers, the attacker fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction immediately after the stabbing. The incident occurred within the confines of the 79th Precinct, which covers Bedford-Stuyvesant. No description of the suspect has been released, and it remains unclear whether the store's surveillance cameras captured the attacker's identity, what the underlying dispute was about, or the victim's current medical condition.

The address has drawn police attention before. The commercial space at 894 Myrtle Avenue, a three-story mixed-use building constructed in 1931 with ground-floor retail and eight apartments above according to StreetEasy, was the site of a police alert back in February 2020, when a shoplifting suspect displayed a handgun to store employees before fleeing, as reported by 1010 WINS. Charge Would Carry Years in State Prison

If the attacker is identified and arrested, the use of a sharp object to intentionally cause physical injury would qualify as Assault in the Second Degree under New York Penal Law § 120.05(2), a Class D violent felony punishable by up to seven years in state prison, per Saland Law.

The stabbing adds to a string of violent, weapon-involved altercations in Bedford-Stuyvesant this year. In July, a late-night dispute on Chauncy Street left two men hospitalized with abdominal stab wounds, and in March, a cyclist was stabbed near Lewis and DeKalb avenues by a suspect who fled and was never caught, according to earlier Hoodline reporting.
