The Hernando County Sheriff's Office closed Broad Street in both directions between Campbell Drive and Old Crystal River Road following the crash, warning drivers the closure would likely remain in effect for the next few hours and urging them to seek an alternate route. The Florida Highway Patrol has taken over the fatality investigation, a standard practice in Hernando County when a crash results in death.
A Dangerous Stretch of U.S. 41
Broad Street functions as part of U.S. Route 41, a major multi-lane commercial corridor that carries heavy regional traffic through central Hernando County, according to Redfin.
