A motorcyclist who fell 10 feet into a steep Green Township creek was trapped on rocks and concrete with life-threatening injuries before firefighters reached him below Interstate 74. New body-camera footage shows the difficult rescue, which unfolded after the rider crashed near Haft Road on July 16. He survived, but responders say he faces a long road to recovery.
The footage and interviews detailed by WLWT show the rider unable to move as rescuers worked their way down the drop. The rider later said he skidded out while riding with a group, while the group told the station that a motorcycle “death wobble” caused the crash.
Firefighter Reached Injured Rider At Bottom Of Drop
Landen Brent was the first firefighter and paramedic to descend to the rider, according to the report. He splinted the victim’s leg, treated an abdominal injury with a large bandage and suspected the rider also had a collapsed lung.
Sean Lange requested additional help as the rescue took shape, with a five-man team working to stabilize the rider and move him back up to the roadway. Green Township’s official Fire & EMS department says its four stations are staffed around the clock, a system that proved critical in reaching the crash site quickly.
Crews Completed The Extraction In 18 Minutes
The responders lifted the motorcyclist onto a backboard and carried him up to the road, completing the rescue in about 18 minutes. WLWT’s account says a medical helicopter then flew him to a hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Lange said the response demonstrated the training and caliber of Green Township’s firefighters and paramedics. For the rider, the dramatic extraction was only the first step in what responders described as a lengthy recovery.
