What workers found inside a South Boston home Monday looked enough like bone to bring police and state investigators into the picture. But officials are cautioning that the material has not yet been confirmed as human remains.
Police went to the home shortly after 4 p.m. after people working there discovered what they believed to be human bone remains, according to The Boston Globe. Sergeant Detective John Boyle, a Boston police spokesperson, said he believed the remains were found inside the house.
Testing Will Determine Whether The Remains Are Human
The material was turned over to the state medical examiner’s office, where it is undergoing testing. That distinction matters: the discovery is being investigated as potentially human, but authorities have not announced that conclusion.
James Borghesani, a spokesperson for the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office, told The Boston Globe that testing is being conducted to determine whether the remains are “animal or human.” No additional details about the material or the investigation were immediately released.
The case remains at an early stage, with forensic testing expected to establish what was found before investigators can determine what happened at the property. For now, the bones are evidence under examination—not yet a confirmed human-remains case.
