A wooded stretch of Northeast Philadelphia became the center of an active investigation Tuesday night after skeletal human remains were discovered, leaving authorities with a grim unanswered question: who was the person found there?
Philadelphia police were called around 7 p.m. to the woods near Knights Road, where they found remains believed to belong to an adult, according to Daily Voice. Investigators have not determined the deceased person's race or gender.
The Philadelphia Medical Examiner's Office is expected to work on identifying the person and determining the cause and manner of death. Police have released no additional details and are asking anyone with information to contact the department.
Another Unidentified Remains Case Hit Philadelphia This Spring
The discovery follows two other reports of adult skeletal remains found in Philadelphia this year. In April, police found remains in wooded areas near Wissahickon Creek and Germantown Avenue, with identity, gender and cause of death still unresolved, NBC10 Philadelphia reported.
That case was also the subject of another Philly remains case. In May, adult skeletal remains were found near a creek in Northeast Philadelphia, and investigators again turned the remains over for further analysis, according to FOX 29 Philadelphia.
The similar discoveries do not establish any connection between the cases, and authorities have not announced one. For now, the Knights Road investigation remains open while forensic work begins and officials try to put a name to the remains.
