A Sunday morning traffic stop in Mattapan turned into a chaotic crash when the driver allegedly bolted, barreled onto a sidewalk, struck several vehicles and crashed through a fence.
Officers attempted to stop the driver on Havelock Street around 9 a.m., but the motorist fled instead of pulling over. According to WHDH 7News, the driver hit several vehicles before crashing, while police gathered evidence at the scene.
Police Had Few Details Sunday
The driver's identity, whether anyone was injured, whether an arrest was made and what prompted the stop were not immediately released. The incident remained under investigation, with officials providing no additional information as of the initial report.
Mattapan Has Seen Similar Traffic-Stop Crashes
The crash echoes a separate Mattapan case from June 2024, when officers said a driver fleeing a traffic stop struck a parked vehicle on Talbot Avenue before the driver and a passenger ran away. The Boston Police Department said investigators later recovered a loaded firearm in the area, but there is no indication the older case is connected to Sunday's incident.
For now, investigators are working to reconstruct what happened on Havelock Street and assess the damage to the vehicles and fence. Any arrest or charging information would be expected in a later update.
