It marked the third incident involving a Massachusetts State Police cruiser within a single 24-hour period on Monday, according to Boston 25 News. Just before that, at 2:18 a.m., a trooper's cruiser parked on the shoulder of I-93 North in Stoneham was struck, resulting in minor injuries and civil citations against the driver for distracted driving and marked-lanes violations, per the same outlet's reporting.
Then, at 8:15 a.m., a second trooper — this one from the Middleborough Barracks — was involved in a three-vehicle collision at Crescent Street and Crescent Avenue in Brockton, sending the trooper and another driver to a local hospital, Boston 25 News reported. That means two of the day's three cruiser crashes happened within the same city, on two of its busier roadways, within hours of each other.
A Site Brockton Officials Had Flagged Before
The stretch of Belmont Street where Monday night's crash occurred is not unfamiliar to city officials. Municipal records from May 2024 show the Brockton Traffic Commission had previously evaluated traffic safety concerns at 899 Belmont Street and Edinboro Avenue, citing hazardous vehicle entry and exit patterns near the adjacent gas station, according to City of Brockton records. City councilors had requested monitoring of the intersection at the time.
