A 41-year-old man was shot in the left leg early Saturday outside a Canarsie event space, sending him to Brookdale Hospital in stable condition while the gunman remained at large. The shooting unfolded near Naomi’s Suite as the neighborhood was waking up, and police have not released a motive or suspect description. No arrests had been announced as the investigation continued.
According to amNewYork, officers from the NYPD’s 69th Precinct responded after receiving reports of a person shot at the Avenue D venue. Emergency medical workers transported the victim to Brookdale Hospital, where police sources said he was listed in stable condition.
Canarsie Shooting Comes Amid A Mixed Citywide Picture
The shooting arrives against a complicated backdrop for New York City, where the NYPD recently reported historically low shooting totals for the first half of 2026. The department said there were 322 shooting incidents and 381 shooting victims during that period, the fewest recorded for a first half of the year, according to an NYPD announcement. Those citywide numbers do not make Saturday’s violence any less immediate for people living and working around the Canarsie venue corridor.
The same Avenue D stretch has seen another recent shooting investigation. On July 4, a 27-year-old woman was shot in the right thigh near 8920 Avenue D and taken to Brookdale Hospital in stable condition; Hoodline previously reported that no arrest had been announced in that case.
