Burst Beans Coffee has traded its online-only roots for a storefront of its own, opening its first brick-and-mortar cafe at 95 Anderson Street in Hackensack. The specialty coffee brand, built around mindfulness and self-care, now serves customers seven days a week from a spot tucked into one of downtown Hackensack's newest residential developments.
The company was founded in 2022, according to Burst Beans Coffee. Boozy Burbs describes the brand as an online specialty coffee operation, with a mission the company describes as helping people slow down, be intentional, and prioritize self-care one cup at a time, as reported by Boozy Burbs.
A Cafe Built Around Self-Care Rituals
Each bag includes a printed affirmation meant to encourage drinkers to set a daily intention, per the brand's own account. That branding extends to the beans themselves: the coffee is described as non-GMO and pesticide-free, and each bag also includes positive affirmations, according to Boozy Burbs. The beans are roasted in small batches, the company notes.
To qualify as specialty-grade, the classification Burst Beans applies to its coffee, green beans must score at least 80 points on the Specialty Coffee Association's 100-point sensory cupping scale, a standard documented in research published via PubMed Central. Burst Beans says its cafe serves coffee roasted in small batches and to order, emphasizing quality, wellness, and community in how it presents the product to customers.
Giving Back With Every Sale
According to the company, Burst Beans donates a portion of every sale to Mental Health America, an organization that promotes mental health awareness and wellbeing. The brand has not disclosed how much of its physical-store revenue will flow toward that donation, an open question as the cafe settles into its first weeks of walk-in business.
Burst Beans posted job listings offering hourly wages between $16 and $19 for part-time and full-time baristas at the Hackensack location, according to listings reviewed on Indeed. The listings were for barista positions at the Hackensack location.
Landing Inside Hackensack's Newest Tower
The cafe occupies ground-floor retail space inside The Forte, also known as Forte 95, a six-story, 315,000-square-foot mixed-use development with 222 residential apartments, according to Mc Gowan. The building includes nearly 4,000 square feet of retail space and an open-air central courtyard, giving Burst Beans a built-in base of residential foot traffic right outside its door.
The location also sits just east of the NJ Transit rail line. The surrounding area includes residential development, while the shop joins the building's retail offering. The cafe's customer traffic remains to be seen.
Part of a Bigger Downtown Overhaul
The opening lands at The Forte, a mixed-use development with residential apartments and retail space.
Burst Beans now joins the newer commercial tenants in the corridor.
Riding a National Wellness Coffee Wave
The National Coffee Association's 2025 Specialty Coffee Report found that daily specialty coffee consumption in the U.S. reached record highs, with 61% of specialty coffee drinkers connecting their daily brew to health and wellness benefits, according to Daily Coffee News. The report also found higher daily specialty coffee consumption than traditional coffee consumption.
For now, Burst Beans Coffee is open daily in Hackensack, selling specialty coffee from the brand founded in 2022, but with the added overhead — and opportunity — of a physical storefront. More details on the brand's coffee lines and sourcing are available through Burst Beans Coffee's website.
