A deputy chased down and used a Taser-like device on a knife-wielding suspect after a postal worker was stabbed multiple times at a Carmel post office. Newly released body-camera footage shows the tense arrest unfolding moments after deputies arrived.
The incident happened around 3 p.m. Thursday, when Putnam County 911 received reports of a disturbance at the Carmel Post Office. Dispatchers soon learned that a suspect was armed with a knife and that a postal employee had been stabbed, according to Daily Voice.
Deputies Arrived Within Moments Of 911 Call
The Putnam County Sheriff's Office said deputies arrived within moments of the initial call and encountered the suspect while he was still armed. The suspect tried to flee, but a deputy deployed a Taser before deputies took him into custody without further incident.
The injured postal worker suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital in a private vehicle. Carmel police said the suspect was known to the victim, and investigators believe the stabbing was isolated with no continuing threat to the public, Daily Voice reported.
Suspect's Identity And Charges Remain Pending
Authorities had not released the suspect's identity as of Friday, and criminal charges were still pending. The Putnam County Sheriff's Office reminded the public that anyone mentioned in its reports is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Carmel Police Department detectives are continuing to investigate what led to the stabbing and the relationship between the suspect and the injured postal worker.
