Tech-house DJ Cloonee played a five-hour, sold-out set at Brooklyn Army Terminal before capping the night with a second performance at the Edge, the outdoor sky deck perched 1,100 feet above Manhattan at 30 Hudson Yards. Now the 30-year-old producer, born David Bissett, is turning his attention west, with a scheduled appearance at Day Trip Festival in San Jose on Sunday, October 18.
Cloonee described the view from the Edge as incredible and said he was looking forward to performing there, according to an interview with the New York Post. The Edge sits atop 30 Hudson Yards and features an outdoor terrace that juts 80 feet out from the building's 100th floor, making it the highest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere, according to Related Companies. The venue added multi-sensory indoor installations over the summer, per the same source.
The DJ told the Post that playing a daytime set into a nighttime one lets him showcase two different styles of music, building energy before bringing the crowd back down. It is a format he has now road-tested from a Brooklyn shipping terminal to a Manhattan skyscraper, and soon a meadow in downtown San Jose.
From Sheffield Soundcloud Uploads to Beatport Number Ones
Cloonee, whose stage name draws from Ireland's Cloone Lake where he fished with his grandfather as a child, grew up in England's West Midlands and studied journalism at the University of Sheffield, the Post reports. He started uploading demos to SoundCloud in 2014 and has now worked in the music industry for 14 years. His stage moniker's origin and early biography were also detailed by Groot Hospitality.
His first Beatport #1 came in 2019 with the single Be Good to Me on Big Beat Records, following his 2017 debut EP Estes on Elrow Music, according to background compiled by Gray Area. That breakout run helped place him among Beatport's top-selling tech-house producers that year. In 2020, Chris Lake brought Cloonee to Los Angeles and signed him to Black Book Records, a label Lake launched to develop high-potential house music producers, per uDiscoverMusic. The pair went on to release the joint single Nightmares via Astralwerks in May 2022.
Cloonee has since built out his own imprint, an independent record label running under the slogan good music for bad people. That label, Hellbent Records, launched in 2022 with the debut single Tripasia and a compilation sampler titled Welcome to Hell, per Relentless Beats. It now serves as a release platform for both his unreleased tracks and emerging tech-house producers.
A Debut Album and a Chart-Topping Single
Cloonee announced his debut album, Are You Still You? (stylized AYSY?), per the Post, a 16-track project set for release on October 6 via Hellbent Records and Good Music For Bad People. The album reflects on his 14-year career evolution and changing sound, according to Beatportal.
Ahead of the album, Cloonee released the Prospa track Free Your Mind, which topped Beatport's charts, and followed it with Good Girl, featuring Prospa and Tristan Henry, which also reached #1 on Beatport within days and pulled in more than 3.5 million streams this month, per TF Word. Good Girl has already become a festival favorite, having been played at Tomorrowland, EDC and Coachella. Cloonee also remixed CeeLo Green's Crazy, per the Post. He performed on Coachella's Sahara Stage in 2024 while generating viral streaming hits with Sippin' Yak and Stephanie featuring Young M.A., tracks that became staples of his North American tour sets, according to background from the Elements Music & Arts Festival.
San Jose's Day Trip Festival Set for October
Cloonee is booked to perform at Day Trip Festival NorCal at Discovery Meadow in San Jose on Sunday, October 18. The two-day event, co-produced by Insomniac and NPU Live, runs October 17 through 18 as an 18-and-older festival operating daily from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., according to Insomniac. Organizers are offering both two-day and single-day passes for the house-music-focused lineup, which also features Gordo b2b Vintage Culture, Chris Lorenzo, Eli Brown, Wax Motif and Script.
The San Jose edition marks Insomniac's Northern California expansion of the Day Trip brand, whose flagship event takes place along the Long Beach waterfront at the Queen Mary. That Southern California festival expanded in June to include an 11,000-capacity open-air amphitheater stage where Cloonee also performed, as Hoodline previously reported. NPU Live, the San Jose co-promoter, was also noted in Hoodline's coverage of a new Sacramento-area venue announcement earlier this summer.
Cloonee's New York stops and San Jose booking arrive amid a broader wave of major EDM names touring the U.S. this year, with the Post naming John Summit, Steve Aoki, RÜFÜS DU SOL, Gryffin and Subtronics among five notable artists currently on the road. Summit is slated to play New York City later in 2026, according to the same report.
