Emergency crews were working Monday to free a person trapped in a trench in Creve Coeur, prompting a road closure near a residential area. The rescue effort involved a potentially dangerous excavation several feet below ground, with the outcome still unclear.
Country Manor Road was closed to through traffic at Country Manor Court around 3:35 p.m. because of “fire and rescue activity,” according to First Alert 4. An official at the scene told the station the person was stuck in a trench estimated to be 5 to 10 feet deep.
Road Closure Remains In Place During Technical Rescue
The Creve Coeur Fire Protection District identifies trench rescue as one of the specialized operations its personnel train to handle, alongside confined-space, rope and high-angle rescues. The district also says its heavy-rescue personnel are part of the St. Louis Metro Urban Search and Rescue team, according to the Creve Coeur Fire Protection District.
No information was immediately released about the trapped person’s condition, what caused the incident or whether the rescue had been completed. First Alert 4 reported that the situation remained developing, and drivers were advised to avoid the closed stretch while crews worked.
