Dallas in the Fryer Again: Triple-Digit Heat, Ozone Alert and Storm Shots for DFW

Dallas is starting today partly cloudy and near 86°F, but the brief morning calm will give way to another dangerous round of heat. A Heat Advisory remains in effect through 9 p.m., with temperatures expected to climb to about 102°F and the heat index reaching as high as 106°F.

Triple-Digit Heat Peaks Wednesday Afternoon

The National Weather Service says there is a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly near the frontal boundary this afternoon and evening. Any isolated storm could bring a quick downpour and gusty winds, while a weak front may shift winds toward the northwest at 15 to 20 mph.

Patchy smoke from ongoing wildfires could also reduce visibility in some areas. The Dallas-Fort Worth area is under an Ozone Action Day today, adding another reason to limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the afternoon.

Heat Eases Slightly, But Not Enough

Tomorrow will remain hot, with a high near 101°F and heat index values potentially reaching 109°F. A slight chance of storms is possible before 7 a.m., but most of the day should be mostly sunny.

Friday through next Tuesday brings mostly sunny skies and highs between 100°F and 101°F, with overnight lows mostly in the upper 70s to around 80°F. The forecast is less severe than the extreme heat warning covered in Hoodline, but there is still no meaningful break from the heat expected into early September.

Cooling Centers And Heat Safety

The City of Dallas says residents can seek temporary relief at public libraries, recreation centers and community centers during regular business hours. Designated cooling centers include the West Dallas Multipurpose Center at 2828 Fish Trap Road and the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center at 2922 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

Drink plenty of water, wear lightweight clothing, and take frequent breaks in shade or air conditioning. The National Weather Service also advises scheduling strenuous activities for early morning or evening, and never leaving children or pets in an enclosed vehicle, even briefly.
