One person died after a car and motorcycle were involved in a late-night crash Monday on Winchester Road in Memphis’ Hickory Hill neighborhood. The wreck happened sometime between 11 and 11:30 p.m., leaving investigators with a fatal scene and few publicly released details so far.
The crash was reported on Winchester in Hickory Hill, according to FOX13 Memphis. The initial report did not identify the person who died or explain what led to the collision, and the station said it would update the story as more information becomes available.
Winchester Road Has A Troubling Crash Record
The fatal wreck comes on a stretch of Winchester Road that has already drawn attention for serious traffic crashes. A Memphis-area safety report found that the segment from Hickory Hill Road to Kirby Parkway recorded 1,185 crashes between 2018 and 2022, including 23 crashes involving a death or serious injury, five fatalities and 22 serious injuries, according to the Memphis MPO.
The report also found that angle crashes made up the majority of collisions along that corridor, while single-vehicle crashes represented a smaller share of all wrecks but a larger share of crashes resulting in death or serious injury. That history adds a grim backdrop to Monday night’s motorcycle crash, though authorities have not released enough information to say whether any of those factors played a role.
Another fatal crash was reported on Winchester in June, when a man died after a one-vehicle wreck near Kirby Parkway, as detailed in an earlier Hoodline report. The cause of Monday’s crash, the identity of the person who died and any potential citations or charges remain unclear pending further information from investigators.
