Diplo's Run Club Returns to San Diego, Sends Runners Through Gaslamp to Petco Park

Diplo is bringing his hybrid running-and-concert series back to San Diego this fall, with the DJ and producer set to send runners through the Gaslamp Quarter before headlining a concert at Petco Park's Gallagher Square on November 21, 2026. The event, known as Diplo's Run Club, sold out during its first year in San Diego in 2025 and is now returning as part of a nine-city 2026-27 tour that adds new cities to its lineup.

The San Diego 5K starts at J Street and 14th Street and winds runners through the Gaslamp Quarter in downtown San Diego, according to FOX 5 San Diego and KUSI News. The race is open to all ages and includes finisher medals and partner giveaways, with the DJ performing a concert on the main stage in Gallagher Square once the running is done.

San Diego's inaugural edition of the event, held on November 8, 2025, drew an estimated 8,000 runners and fans to downtown San Diego and Gallagher Square, according to CBS 8 San Diego. That turnout helped set up this year's return, and the station's report frames the November date as building directly on that sold-out debut.

A Ballpark Built for the Encore

Gallagher Square itself has been retooled for exactly this kind of hybrid event. The space at Petco Park completed a $20 million renovation in March 2024 for the stadium's 20th anniversary, a project that leveled lawn seating, added a permanent stage, and installed directional delay sound towers to manage neighborhood noise, per the San Diego Padres. Those upgrades also expanded public amenities, giving the venue room to handle both a road race finish line and a full concert crowd in the same footprint.

San Diego marks the seventh stop on the nine-city 2026-27 Diplo's Run Club tour, which began in Denver on July 12, 2026, and wraps up with a final stop in Phoenix in January 2027, according to Endurance Sportswire. Before landing in San Diego, the tour has visited Chicago, San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles. Diplo has also previously performed at Nova San Diego and the Mad Decent Block Party, giving him prior ties to the city's music scene beyond last year's race.

From No-Training Half Marathon to National Tour

The concept traces back to Diplo's own running exploits. He created the Run Club after completing the 2022 Miami Half Marathon in 1:50:11 without prior training and heading straight to a nightclub afterward, later finishing the 2023 Los Angeles Marathon in under four hours, according to Runner's World. That origin story has since scaled into a touring series that drew more than 100,000 total participants during its 2025-2026 second season, a run of growth that earned it a spot on Fast Company's 2026 list of the 50 Most Innovative Companies in the wellness and personal care sector.

Fast Company's reporting also points to who is actually showing up: more than half of registered participants across Diplo's Run Club events are first-time 5K runners, with an average participant age of around 36. That demographic pull, drawing casual fitness fans rather than seasoned racers, has been central to the series' rapid expansion from two cities in 2024 to ten in 2026.

What Runners Can Expect on Race Day

Standard 5K registration for the November 21 San Diego event ranges from $112 to $211.68 on official ticketing platforms, according to Let's Do This. Pricing includes a technical t-shirt, finisher medal, and post-race concert access, while optional VIP packages add front-of-line start privileges and dedicated stage viewing. Diplo previously performed at the 2025 San Diego race, and past Run Club stops elsewhere on the tour have featured guest DJ sets alongside Diplo from artists including Dillon Francis, Mark Ronson, and A-Trak, per BroadwayWorld.

The race also lands San Diego within a broader wave of downtown running events. The Gaslamp Quarter regularly hosts major urban races along Fifth Avenue, including the Margaritaville Run held in August 2026 and the GOVX San Diego Half Marathon.
