Downtown Los Angeles is waking up around 69 degrees Sunday, but that mild start is a short-lived courtesy. The forecast calls for highs of 94 degrees Sunday, 95 Monday and 98 Tuesday as a hotter stretch takes hold across the city.
Heat Advisory Starts Sunday Morning
The National Weather Service has placed Downtown LA and much of the Los Angeles County inland coast under a Heat Advisory from 10 a.m. Sunday through 10 a.m. Tuesday. Skies will stay sunny with almost no chance of rain, while afternoon southwest winds reach up to 10 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
Sunday's temperatures will climb quickly, reaching about 91 degrees around noon and peaking near 94 in the afternoon. Monday will be similarly hot, with only modest evening relief as the low settles around 73 degrees.
Tuesday Starts A Hotter Run
The heat intensifies Tuesday, when Downtown LA could reach 98 degrees, followed by highs near 99 Wednesday and Thursday and around 100 Friday. An Extreme Heat Watch is in effect from Tuesday morning through Friday evening as forecasters warn of potentially dangerous conditions.
Overnight lows will also run unusually warm, rising from around 70 degrees Sunday night to 76 Tuesday night before staying in the low to mid-70s through Friday. That limited overnight cooldown can make several consecutive hot days more difficult, especially for people without reliable air conditioning.
The new outlook is a sharper escalation from an earlier August heat advisory, when Downtown LA was expected to see temperatures closer to the upper 80s and low 90s, as previously reported by Hoodline.
Plan Outdoor Time Early
The National Weather Service advises drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned spaces, avoiding direct sun and checking on relatives and neighbors. Outdoor exercise and other strenuous activities are best handled early in the day, and children and pets should never be left in parked vehicles.
