Downtown Phoenix is about to get a lot more chalk, leotards and Olympic-level ambition. The 2026 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships arrive this Thursday for a four-day run that will also bring USA Gymnastics’ National Congress and Trade Show to the city.
The championships will mark Phoenix’s first time hosting the marquee artistic gymnastics event, with junior and senior men’s and women’s competitions taking place at Mortgage Matchup Center. USA Gymnastics says the field is expected to include Olympians, world champions and rising stars competing for national titles and national-team spots.
The City of Phoenix says the weekend is expected to draw thousands of athletes, coaches, families, fans and gymnastics-industry professionals into the downtown core. For a city that already likes to call itself Championship Valley, this is another sizable sporting event landing right in the middle of the summer heat.
A Four-Day National Showcase
The competition schedule is neatly divided by discipline and day: men’s Day 1 is Thursday, women’s Day 1 follows Friday, men return Saturday and the women’s field closes out the championships Sunday. The stakes extend well beyond the medals handed out in the arena. According to USA Gymnastics, athletes will compete for positions on the 2026–27 national teams and for a chance to make the U.S. roster for the 2026 World Gymnastics Artistic Championships in Rotterdam this fall.
The Convention Runs Alongside The Competition
The National Congress and Trade Show will run Friday through Sunday at the Phoenix Convention Center, giving coaches, judges, club owners and other gymnastics professionals their own parallel event downtown. The program includes educational seminars, live demonstrations and a trade show for vendors serving the sport, with more than 2,500 attendees and exhibitors expected, according to the organization’s original announcement.
That means Phoenix will be hosting two very different versions of gymnastics at once: elite athletes chasing titles under bright arena lights, and the business and education machinery that keeps thousands of clubs operating nationwide. The Phoenix Convention Center is set to handle the professional gathering while the championship arena stages the headline competition.
