A late-night trip to an employees-only restroom at a Duluth Kroger ended with a coworker allegedly spotting a man on his hands and knees, peering beneath her stall — and with the employee later facing a felony charge. The arrest came weeks after the alleged June incident, after store surveillance helped investigators track the movements described in a police report. The accused says he entered because the men’s restroom was filthy and denies breaking the law.
According to WSB-TV, Allen Jamar Young, 46, of Atlanta, was arrested Wednesday night just before midnight outside the Kroger on Sugarloaf Parkway near Duluth, where he worked. Gwinnett County police charged him with felony Peeping Tom. Jail records cited by the station show he was released on bond Thursday morning.
The alleged encounter happened on June 10, when the coworker entered the upstairs restroom around 2 a.m. during an overnight shift, according to the police report described by WSB-TV. She told investigators that a man entered without speaking, and that she saw him on his hands and knees looking under the stall door before he quickly left. Young told police he used the women’s restroom because the men’s restroom was “filthy” and said he “never did anything against the law.”
Store Video Became Part Of The Investigation
The coworker recognized the man as a fellow employee and said she avoided him for the remainder of the shift. A responding officer noted that only a small number of employees were working overnight and that the coworker was alone on the second floor. Store video reportedly showed a man walking toward the restrooms shortly before 2 a.m. and hurrying back downstairs minutes later.
The case remains an accusation, not a conviction, and the available reporting does not indicate that prosecutors have announced any additional charges. Young’s next court proceedings and the ultimate outcome of the felony case will determine how the allegation moves forward.
Kroger Says Associate Privacy Is A Priority
The incident involved Kroger’s Sugarloaf Parkway location, which the retailer lists at 6555 Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth, according to Kroger’s store directory. A Kroger spokesperson told WSB-TV that the company prioritizes “the safety of our customers and privacy of our associates,” while directing questions about the case to local authorities.
