Nearly six years after a deadly East Oakland shooting, a 50-year-old Oakland man has been sentenced to 15 years in state prison for killing a man outside his home. Jeffrey Hall Jr. pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter after prosecutors initially charged him with murder.
According to The Mercury News, Hall accepted a plea deal that allowed him to resolve the case through the lesser offense. He received credit for five and a half years spent in jail while the case was pending and has remained in custody since his arrest.
A Dispute Over A Woman Ended In Gunfire
Terrence Douresseau, 43, was fatally shot on Dec. 16, 2020, near his home in the 5500 block of East 15th Street. The initial police response, reported by CBS San Francisco, found a wounded Oakland man who died at the scene.
Prosecutors said the conflict centered on a woman who had a restraining order against Douresseau over alleged domestic violence. They alleged that Douresseau believed Hall had called police on the woman’s behalf, and that Hall texted him around 8:40 p.m. before going to his home roughly 20 minutes later.
Police said several people arrived in a Chevrolet Equinox, with the driver spraying the residence with rifle fire and a passenger firing a pistol. Hall was accused of renting the vehicle, while investigators said cellphone GPS data placed him at the homicide scene.
Investigators Used Phone Data To Tie Hall To The Scene
Hall was arrested about two months after the shooting, according to Crime Voice. That account reported that investigators connected the rental vehicle and Hall’s phone location to the attack, while authorities charged him with murder and multiple firearms offenses.
Hall was the only man charged in the killing, according to The Mercury News. His no-contest plea brought the long-running case to a close without a murder trial, but the sentence still leaves the 2020 shooting’s central dispute with a prison term ending nearly six years after Douresseau was killed.
