Triple Digits Arrive Before Sunset
The National Weather Service is calling for mostly sunny skies and east winds of 2 to 6 mph, with heat-index values reaching 100. The hottest stretch should come during the afternoon, when outdoor errands and exercise will be least forgiving.
Storm Chance Returns Thursday Night
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible after 6 p.m. and before 11 p.m., with a 30% chance of precipitation. The best odds are west of the Rio Grande, but storms that develop could produce lightning, brief heavy rain, and sudden outflow gusts of up to 50 mph across the broader region.
Heat Advisory Covers Lower Valley
The advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. Thursday for the Rio Grande Valley of eastern El Paso and western Hudspeth counties, along with the Rio Grande Valley of eastern Hudspeth County. Residents should drink water regularly, seek shade or air conditioning, take breaks during outdoor work, and check on older neighbors and pets.
The city’s heat-safety guidance lists cooling centers and advises residents to call 2-1-1 for the nearest location. Keeping pets shaded and supplied with water will also matter as pavement and vehicles heat up quickly.
Weekend Stays Hot And Drier
Friday should reach 101 degrees, followed by highs near 100 Saturday and Sunday, with little chance for rain as drier air settles back in. Highs are expected to remain around 100 to 101 through Wednesday, although another chance for showers and thunderstorms may return Wednesday night.
