Kyle Singler, the former Duke star who helped deliver the Blue Devils a national championship in 2010, has posted a new round of unsettling Instagram videos directed at his former coach, Mike Krzyzewski, accusing him of setting Singler up and dismissing his pleas for help. The 38-year-old retired NBA player claims he reached out to Krzyzewski for assistance and was met with indifference, marking the latest chapter in a distress pattern that has played out publicly for more than two years.
According to the New York Post, Singler posted three videos aimed at Krzyzewski this week, the first captioned “where u &,” the second posted twice with the caption “now we talk’n,” and a final one captioned “what are we doi’n.” In the videos, Singler claimed he had repeatedly reached out to Krzyzewski and felt his old coach was being deflective, and he alleged Duke was seeking his money while he had no power and no house. He also said he felt imprisoned, unable to leave his house, and claimed his accounts were frozen while he was being watched, according to the same report.
Singler and Krzyzewski shared one of college basketball's signature moments together, winning the 2010 national title as Singler averaged 20.0 points and 9.0 rebounds across Duke's Final Four run to earn Most Outstanding Player honors, per Duke Athletics. Singler played for Krzyzewski from 2007 through 2011, a stretch that included the coach guiding him through Duke's 2011 NCAA Tournament game against Michigan and directing him during a 2010 matchup against Tulsa in Durham, according to the Post's reporting. Krzyzewski retired from coaching Duke after the 2021-22 season, as noted by Heavy Sports.
A Pattern Stretching Back Over Two Years
The Post's report places this week's videos within a troubling pattern that Singler has repeated for more than two years. In November 2024, he posted a shirtless Instagram video saying he feared for his life every day and alleging that people were breaking into his house and accounts and taking his money. That post prompted public messages of support from NBA players Kevin Love, Isaiah Thomas, and Andre Drummond, according to the Post; Love grew up playing youth basketball with Singler in Oregon, per the Associated Press.
The National Basketball Players Association confirmed that month it had established contact with Singler's family to offer mental health and welfare support following the posts, a step consistent with the union's broader mission of offering resources to current and retired members, according to a report carried by News4JAX. Singler also alleged around that time that people were cutting off his power, breaking into his house, stealing his money and ruining his life, and that he had no freedom and was locked in his house, claims he has continued to voice per the Post's account.
An Arrest and Escalating Claims in Oklahoma
Last October, Oklahoma police arrested Singler after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend, with a probable cause affidavit alleging he appeared to have taken drugs and chased his girlfriend and their child, and separately alleging he threatened her with rape before the assault, according to CBS Sports. Haskell County deputies made the arrest in Whitefield, Oklahoma, on misdemeanor domestic abuse charges, and Singler was booked into jail and released on $6,000 bond, per Us Weekly. Singler himself has said he was arrested, searched and removed from restaurants in Oklahoma and has alleged that people were trying to kill him, claims relayed in the Post's report.
Two months into this year, Singler posted another volatile video claiming he was homeless and isolated while alleging financial exploitation and directly addressing Duke and his hometown of Medford, Oregon, according to Complex. He also claimed in that video that a child was being sexually, physically, emotionally and spiritually abused, and said he did not feel safe, per the same report. Those allegations remain unverified and were made by Singler without naming the individuals involved.
From State Champion to Six NBA Seasons
Before any of this, Singler was the top-ranked high school small forward recruit in the nation, leading South Medford High School to its first OSAA 6A state championship in 2007, according to the Medford Sports Hall of Fame, which inducted him in 2022. He was drafted 33rd overall in the second round of the 2011 NBA Draft and went on to play parts of six seasons in the league with the Detroit Pistons and Oklahoma City Thunder, appearing in 356 games and averaging 6.5 points before retiring in 2019, per Basketball Reference and the Post's report, though the Post described his NBA tenure as running from 2012 through 2018. He earned NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors in 2013, and the Thunder signed him to a five-year, roughly $25 million contract extension in July 2015 after acquiring him in a trade from Detroit, according to Sports Illustrated.
