Atlanta Falcons fans got a brutal training-camp scare Tuesday when second-year linebacker Jalon Walker was carted off after a pass-rush play. The early word is grim — Walker is feared to have torn his ACL, though an MRI is still needed to make that diagnosis official.
Walker stayed on the turf near the end of practice while trainers rushed over and teammates gathered around him. The Atlanta Falcons said the outside linebacker was taken away on a cart, players later huddled around coach Kevin Stefanski, and the workout was ended once Walker left the field.
The more serious update came from Atlanta News First, which reported that NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Walker is feared to have suffered a torn ACL and will undergo an MRI. That means the injury is not yet confirmed publicly, but it is already a major concern for an Atlanta defense that expected Walker to be a starting presence this season.
Walker Was Poised For A Bigger Role In Atlanta
The timing is especially rough because the Falcons had been preparing to widen Walker's responsibilities in his second NFL season. In May, the Falcons said coaches still viewed the edge as his foundation while considering snaps over the ball, over a guard and in other spots across the front seven.
Walker arrived as the No. 15 pick in the 2025 draft out of Georgia and gave Atlanta a promising rookie season. He appeared in 14 games and finished with 36 tackles, 5.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery, according to CBS Sports.
Now the Falcons are waiting on the MRI before they can map out the next step. If the ACL tear is confirmed, Atlanta would lose a young edge rusher who was expected to start; if the scan brings better news, Tuesday's abrupt practice ending will still be a reminder of how quickly a promising camp can turn.
