Portland’s Pamana is leaving its hotel-lobby residency for a room with serious Northeast Portland history. The acclaimed Filipino restaurant plans to bring its dinner service into the former Expatriate space, while keeping its brunch operation downtown for the foreseeable future.
Owners Ethan and Geri Leung expect to begin dinner service at the new Northeast Portland location in October or November 2026, according to OregonLive. Pamana’s brunch at The Hoxton will continue for at least two more years, giving the restaurant a rare split personality: hotel brunch downtown, Filipino dinner on the east side.
Pamana Is Expanding Its Family-Rooted Filipino Menu
The Leungs launched Pamana after building a following with their Baon Kainan food cart, which Eater Portland named its Best New Food Cart in 2021. The restaurant’s cooking draws on Filipino ingredients, family traditions and the couple’s Filipino-American upbringing, according to Pamana’s own site.
Current dinner offerings have included pork belly sisig, salmon sinigang, pancit canton, lumpia and steak frites with coconut sauce au poivre. Brunch favorites such as ube mochi pancakes will remain part of the Hoxton operation, meaning the move adds a second dining room rather than replacing the first.
Expatriate’s Former Space Comes With A Portland Food Legacy
Expatriate opened in 2013 and became known for carefully made cocktails, vinyl-fueled atmosphere and comforting South and Southeast Asian food from chef Naomi Pomeroy. Portland Monthly described the venue as a destination bar, while the business’s own historical archive notes that it closed in February 2026.
Pomeroy, who co-owned Expatriate, died at 49, and the bar’s closure marked the end of one of Portland’s most distinctive food-and-drink chapters. Pamana’s arrival will give the space a new culinary identity without pretending the old one never existed.
For the Leungs, the Northeast Portland move also creates room for Pamana’s dinner menu to grow beyond its current residency format. The restaurant has not announced a precise opening date or a final menu for the new location, but October or November is now the target.
