A 37-year-old woman was walking in front of 4201 Avenue H on Tuesday, July 28, at approximately 3:23 p.m. when an unidentified man approached her from behind and bit her buttocks before fleeing on foot northbound on Albany Avenue. The NYPD is now asking the public for help identifying him.
According to NYPD Crime Stoppers, the attack happened in broad daylight along a stretch of Flatlands that sits within the 63rd Precinct's patrol area. The address places the incident at the corner of Avenue H and East 42nd Street, a predominantly residential pocket of southeastern Brooklyn, as reported by the Brooklyn Eagle. The suspect's escape route took him east along Avenue H before he turned onto Albany Avenue, a north-south roadway that crosses Avenue H two blocks from East 42nd Street and links Flatlands north toward East Flatbush and Crown Heights.
What Charges Could Apply
Under New York Penal Law, conduct like the described biting could fall under Forcible Touching, a Class A misdemeanor carrying up to one year in jail, according to FindLaw. Non-consensual sexual contact can also be charged as Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree, a Class B misdemeanor punishable by up to 90 days in jail under a separate statute cited by FindLaw. No arrest has been announced, and the exact charges the suspect could eventually face remain unresolved pending identification.
A Corridor Already Under Watch
Avenue H has drawn extra scrutiny from police in recent months. At 63rd Precinct Community Council meetings, leadership designated corridors along the avenue as monitoring hot spots due to recurring youth congregation, street robberies and public disturbances, the Brooklyn Eagle reported. That attention followed a cluster of public incidents in the area: in July, NYPD Crime Stoppers issued separate wanted notices for a public exposure incident on a B103 bus at Utica Avenue and a physical assault on a B46 bus at Avenue H, as Hoodline detailed in its coverage of the lewd act case and the bus assault case.
Precinct-level statistics add further context to the pattern. NYPD figures for the 63rd Precinct in late 2025 and 2026 showed shooting incidents dropping 60 percent even as felony assaults rose 24 percent across the same territory, a trend Hoodline has previously reported. Whether investigators believe the Avenue H biting is connected to any other unprovoked or opportunistic groping incidents in southeastern Brooklyn remains an open question that police have not addressed.
How To Submit A Tip

The 63rd Precinct, which covers Flatlands, Marine Park, Mill Basin, Bergen Beach and Old Mill Basin, operates out of its stationhouse at 1844 Brooklyn Avenue. No suspect description beyond the account of the attack itself has been released, and the case remains under investigation.
