New York City is waking up Monday to light rain, fog and temperatures around 70 degrees, but the soggy start should fade by late morning. Skies will brighten as the day goes on, with a high near 82 and a distinctly muggy feel before a few isolated showers or thunderstorms become possible later.
Fog Lifts Before Afternoon Warmth
Rain showers are most likely before 8 a.m., followed by patchy fog and a slight chance of showers through late morning. Partly sunny conditions should take over around midday, while the best chance for an afternoon shower or storm is north and west of the city; areas east of the NYC metro should stay mainly dry. The National Weather Service says any storms should be isolated to scattered rather than widespread.
Beach Risk Remains High Monday
Ocean beaches face a high rip current risk through Monday evening, with waves around 3 to 5 feet and a south-southeast swell. Swimmers should stick close to lifeguarded areas and avoid going in alone, while boaters should note that a Small Craft Advisory remains in effect on some ocean waters into Monday afternoon.
Mostly Dry Tuesday And Wednesday
Tuesday looks mostly sunny with a high near 83, followed by a sunny Wednesday topping out around 85. The next more organized chance for rain arrives Thursday, when showers and thunderstorms are possible with a high near 81. Friday should be mostly sunny near 82, but shower chances return Friday night and continue intermittently through the weekend, with highs near 79 Saturday and 80 Sunday.
