A man walking near the intersection of Danbury Avenue and Avenue I in Hesperia was jumped by four male attackers Saturday, beaten, and robbed at gunpoint of his wallet and phone. One of the four suspects brandished a handgun during the assault, according to authorities.
The attack happened in the area of Danbury Avenue and Avenue I, per Gloria Orejel, as reported by the Victorville Daily Press. The victim was walking in that area when the four men attacked him, physically beating him before making off with his wallet and phone. Detailed descriptions of the suspects were not available, the paper reported.

A Pattern of Armed Street Crime in the High Desert
Saturday's mugging follows a string of armed robberies that has rattled the High Desert in recent weeks. Just two weeks earlier, on August 6, three separate armed robberies struck gas stations across Hesperia and neighboring Victorville within a 22-minute span, as Hoodline previously reported. The area's proximity to the Interstate 15 corridor may help explain rapid getaway crimes.
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the national rate of nonfatal firearm violence was 2.0 victimizations per 1,000 people age 12 or older in 2023, down 72% from 7.3 per 1,000 in 1993. The Bureau of Justice Statistics reported that about 9% of more than 6.4 million violent victimizations in 2023 involved a firearm.
It is not known whether investigators suspect any connection between Saturday's four-man robbery crew and the earlier string of gas station holdups, nor whether surveillance video from homes near Danbury Avenue and Avenue I has produced suspect or vehicle descriptions. The extent of the victim's injuries from the beating has also not been disclosed.
Legal Exposure If Suspects Are Caught
Under California Penal Code Section 211, robbery is always charged as a felony and cannot be reduced to a misdemeanor, carrying a potential state prison sentence of two, three, or five years for second-degree robbery, according to Eisner Gorin LLP. That stands in contrast to standard non-violent felonies, which typically allow parole consideration after half of a sentence is served.

Separately, San Bernardino County authorities have run multi-agency initiatives such as Operation Smash & Grab, which targeted commercial theft and robbery networks in Hesperia, Victorville, and Apple Valley and yielded 24 arrests, Hoodline reported last year.
